Graffiti workshops “Graffiti is art and not vandalism”

Graffiti art as a field of art that originated 50 years ago in the United States has gone through a thorny path from a subcultural phenomenon, often related to vandalism, to the generally accepted Street Art that grew out of Graffiti art culture in the early 2000s. In order to explain to the youngest ones the problems around drawing in unacceptable places and the difference between art and vandalism.

In Plitvice Holiday Resort we held 12 Graffiti workshops: “Graffiti is an art and not vandalism” through which we explained in a different way the problems of drawing in unacceptable places and the difference between art and vandalism.

In the first, theoretical part, we learned about the history of graffiti art, get acquainted with the first sketches, and prepared for the drawing of the first graffiti.

The second part refers to the performance itself, ie drawing graffiti, wall paintings painted with spray paint.

The workshops were organized with the support of TZ Plitvice valleys, and they were held by Krešimir Golubic (Leon), who is one of the pioneers of the graffiti and street art scene in Croatia, has been active since 1992, tried his hand at a variety of styles and works, and is still artistically active. Leon also organizes street art tours, and he also published a Zagreb Street art & Graffiti guide with a section of current works of the Zagreb scene, as well as Blackbook Croatia” – a book of the best works of the Croatian graffiti scene.
